Most basements are just storage - boxes, old furniture, and wasted square footage. This Ann Arbor home had a full lower level sitting unused. We changed that completely. We built out a full kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and entertainment area, turning dead space into one of the most functional floors in the house.
The kitchen came together with custom shaker-style cabinetry in a warm natural wood finish, white quartz countertops, and a center island with bar seating. We kept the hardware simple and dark to tie everything together. Pendant lighting over the island adds just enough character without going overboard. It's a fully working kitchen - not a wet bar, not a kitchenette.
The bathroom is clean and well thought out. Large blue-gray subway tile wraps the tub surround floor to ceiling, with a built-in niche for storage. Brushed nickel fixtures, proper ventilation, and solid tile flooring make it feel polished - not like an afterthought tacked onto a basement.
The bedroom is spacious with natural light coming in through well-placed windows, wood-look flooring running throughout, and recessed lighting overhead. It works just as well as a guest suite as it does a primary bedroom for multi-generational living. The open entertainment area flows directly off the kitchen with recessed lighting and clean sightlines through the whole space.
Basements like this one add real, usable square footage that shows up in your home's value and your daily life. Whether you're thinking about a guest suite, an in-law setup, or just more room for your family - this is exactly the kind of work we do. The whole package: kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, flooring, and custom cabinets, all handled by one crew from start to finish.
